David Matthews Painting & Waterproofing Contractors

Do not use them unless you want to settle a huge, nasty claim for negligence.

David Mathews painters provided a competitive quote and specification for our body corporate which included painting and waterproofing. After the job was approved and work started, a project manager was then on site. She said there was a misunderstanding and that the waterproofing was not included, despite it being on the signed contract. Effectively we got only a portion of what we paid for. Once the job starts and workmen are on site, there is no time to remedy the 'misunderstanding' and then get other quotes and solve the problem and the person who gave you the quote will not take your calls.

About two years ago this time we got David Matthews in to paint our complex's walls. The colour selected was a dark grey and a wild mushroom. Within 2 years the grey paint has faded badly, with paint flaking revealing the existing paint underneath and no sign of a primer/base paint used prior to the application of the paint. Also in the original quote it was specified that all cracks and walls would be waterproofed and sealed. 2 years later we had to get another contractor in to seal all the cracks which was merely painted over. We had a paint specialist come to inspect the fading paint and the report stated that no proper sealant was used on the walls prior to painting, even though the quote specified this specifically. If you want to save yourself hassles and drama and money, DO NOT use David Matthews.

Phoned the company on the 1st July 2015 and spoke to Meagan regarding a quote for a complete first floor water proofing. Meagan stated I would be contacted by a Leon within the hour. Phoned Meagan again on the 3rd July 2015 who was surprised Leon had not contacted me (how many times have Cape Town consumers heard that?) Meagan said she would ensure Leon contacted me. Guess what, today is the 7th July 2015 and Leon is still contacting me! I am guessing ,Leon is either the boss's relative or he enjoys sheltered employment?. The funny thing is that yesterday I received a Home Makers fair magazine in my post box and who is advertising on the front cover ,in full colour mind you, David Mathews Painting & Waterproofing! They say they offer affordable,efficient, friendly and RELIABLE service? Why do they waste money or bother to advertise if they are incapable of doing business in good faith? There is business out the it is just a pity the poor consumer is treated like nuisance.Would you do business with a company like David Mathews, I think not.
