  • Confirm building plans are approved by the local municipality where required, and that the business is registered with CIPC with a valid tax clearance and is VAT-registered if applicable.
  • Check public liability and contractors' all-risk insurance, and that subcontracted electrical, plumbing and gas work goes to registered tradespeople who issue the required Certificates of Compliance.
  • Insist on a written contract with a clear scope, staged payments tied to milestones, and a retention until snagging is done.
