Gas Certificate of Conformity

Required whenever a home with a fixed gas installation changes ownership, and after any new installation, modification or alteration. Built in gas hobs, gas fireplaces, gas geysers and built in braais all count; portable bottled appliances do not.

Rules verified against the regulation and the official body on 2026-07-17. Legal basis: Pressure Equipment Regulations, 2009, regulation 17(3) (under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993).

How long it lasts

The regulations set no fixed validity period. A fresh certificate is triggered by a new installation, an alteration, or a change of user or ownership, so every sale of a home with a fixed gas installation needs one.

Who may issue it

An authorised person registered with SAQCC Gas, the registration body mandated by the Department of Employment and Labour for gas practitioners.
